public activities & programs

The Friends of Balcones offers a variety of educational and fun experiences for the public year-round. The unique geology of the refuge has helped to create a diverse ecological region where some plants and animals are only found here in the Canyonlands. The best way to learn about nature is in nature and our public programs can help.

Bring your curiosity to one of our many family friendly nature talks and walks including:

    • Guided Hikes on public trails and closed tracts
    • Birds of Prey
    • Native Plants and Useful Plants
    • Nature Photography
    • Mindfulness in Nature
    • Native Peoples
    • Geology of the Hill Country
    • Birding Walks
    • And so much more!
Check our Calendar of Events to see what’s coming up.
