Come walk through a burned area at Doeskin Ranch

Monday, January 23, 2012 4:18 PM | Anonymous member

The Balcones fire crew conducted a prescribed burn on the Doeskin Ranch public use area last week. The public has a great opportunity to come take pictures of this area as it changes from bleak and blackened today to a lush landscape this spring. Unlike last year, adequate soil moisture should result in a quick green up this spring.

I walked around the burned areas at the Flying X and was amazed at the number of birds that were present and what seemed like an abundance of food for them. Cathy and I walked Doe Skin years ago right after a burn in January and it looked like a moon scape. We went back out in April and the Indian grass trail was a blaze with the color of Blue Bonnets, Indian paint brushes and many others along with native grasses. Great job fire crew!
