What an incredible morning at Doeskin Ranch! 🦅

June 27, 2026

A huge thank you to the Austin Area Wildlife Rehabilitation for joining us on Saturday June 27 for an unforgettable raptor presentation. Under the shade of the Doeskin pavilion, they brought 11 amazing raptors, and our visitors had the opportunity to learn about these incredible birds, their unique adaptations, and the important work that goes into rehabilitating injured wildlife. It was truly an outstanding program!

We learned the smallest Raptors were certainly the loudest on Saturday, and that even if you are missing an eye you are very majestic looking!  Habitat destruction is a factor in many of the Raptors population declines.   Reiterating the importance of protected wild habitat like the 28,000 acres of Balcones Canyonlands National Wildlife Refuge.

We'd also like to extend a heartfelt thank you to our amazing volunteers who gave their time to help make the event run smoothly. Our volunteers helped give “Goldie” temporary Tattoos, Create Golden-cheeked Warbler crowns and hand out snacks courtesy of HEB.  We couldn't have done it without the volunteers.  We have amazing volunteers - who show up year round to share the Refuge with the community.  Last year our amazing volunteers contributed over 6,500 hours!  That is the equivalent of more than 3 Full time employees.  Thank you.

This event was obviously a hit, with over 100 attendees and an RSVP that filled up in 48 hours- There is obviously a lot of interest in Raptors.  Based on the wonderful turnout and positive feedback, we're already looking forward to doing it again in the future! Stay tuned for more exciting programs at Balcones Canyonlands National Wildlife Refuge.
